When a building is suspected of a microbial infestation, the first step taken to eliminate the problem is a field inspection. During an inspection, problem areas are identified and then sampling is done in that area. Currently the samples collected are done via spore traps, tape lifts, swabs, or bulk techniques. These samples are sent into a laboratory, which does an analysis and then diagnoses the problem. This can be lengthy process leaving the building owner waiting for results for several days.

At Clean Air Labs we are currently looking for new sampling techniques to be used during a field inspection. We believe that it is possible to eliminate a step or two prior to sample analysis. By exploring ideas such as rapid or on the spot diagnostics, answers can be provided to a building owner in a more timely, cost effective manner. Actions for remediation can begin sooner as well as the cleaning of the areas that are infested with microbes.
