Dr.
James Campbell, PhD
Dr. James Campbell holds a Ph.D. in Biology from Texas
Tech University in Lubbock, TX. He received a MS and
BS in Biology from Angelo State University in San Angelo,
TX. His research career began at the undergraduate level
at ASU, where he studied gene flow of collared lizards.
At Texas Tech University, he worked
primarily with oligotrophic bacteria that he isolated
from desert soils of Big Bend National Park. Additionally,
he has isolated, identified and characterized several
perchlorate- and iodate-respiring bacterial strains.
While iodate is a normal and important
component of marine environments, perchlorate has been
identified as a toxic chemical associated with some
sources of drinking water. Perchlorate-respiring bacteria
completely detoxify the compound and hold great remediation
potential.
Dr. Campbell has joined the R&D
division of Clean Air Labs and will work closely with
Dr. Sobek to develop new diagnostic technologies to
rapidly identify microbial contamination in indoor environments.
Contamination with pathogenic bacteria and molds is
of considerable importance because many of these microbes
are known to, or may potentially, pose a significant
health risks to occupants of these dwellings.
